Involvement in the School
I was approached because of my theatre background to aid the teachers in their anti-bullying assembly by creating a song or rap in three days. I made a parody to the song "Glad You Came" by the Wanted and we put on a flash mob for the students! They loved it, and after the assembly and for many days after the kids were singing "Stop. Think. Choose!" They sang it in the classrooms, at recess, and on the bus! It was great to know that the message stuck with them. Watch the video on the right to see the fun that happened at the assembly!

Involvement in the Arts
I volunteered with some of the PTA members to help aid them in their performance of Peter Pan for 3rd-5th graders! I taught the students improv games, line memorization, scene workshops, and even some fight coreography! The shows were a great success and so much fun to be a part of. The picture to the left is of me doing fun excercises to warm their voices and bodies up before their first performance!

Involvement in the Classroom
I always tried to think of new and unique ideas for the students for them to grasp concepts in different subjects. I found that the more they were moving and getting involved in the lesson, the more they retained (and the more fun they had!) Some of the things I created were Spelling Battleship, Polygon Reader's Theatre and "The Anglevengers".
I also thought of physical games for the students to play during the Human Body Systems Unit. They understood some pretty difficult concepts through the games, and it showed on their tests!
On Constitution Day, I dressed up as James Madison and taught them about the Constitution. However, I surprised them with a rap to the tune of "Fresh Prince of Bel Air". They loved it!

(note: the students would draw their own pictures correctly showing the different types of angles)
Involvement with Technology
I am a teacher who loves technology and loves to find ways to incorporate it into the classroom! I did that in numerous ways during my student teaching. I used my iPad to aid in lessons for my visually impaired student. I found websites and apps that helped get the kids excited to come into the classroom and learn. The website, www.superteachertools.com, helped to pick random students, group students together, and create games for studying.
A couple of the apps that I used were augmented reality apps: Aurasma and ColarApp. I used Aurasma as a teaching tool for homework, and the ColarApp was a fun way to see drawings come to life! To the left is an example of the ColarApp. You can find out more in my technology section!

TESTS
I am happy to say that, with the help of my mentor teacher and the incorporation of both technology and creativity in the classroom, the students truly performed well in the different tests they were given. Whether it was a science test or a math test, the students took what they learned and showed it well. There were numerous times where our lower students got A's on Math assessments, or students who struggled with Science got A's as well. Our average on tests was never below an 80%.
