Give me 5
"Mr. Kern's Cash"

Classroom management is an important part of schooling to ensure a safe environment for students to learn in. In my classroom, my goal is to have a fun environment where students can look forward to coming to and learning in unique ways; all while having a safe, non-threatening environment. Below are some, but not all, of the ways I plan to follow through with that goal:

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

I have found through my student teaching that the cash incentive is a fantastic way to manage a classroom. However, there are many different ways that teachers approach this. In my classroom, I would have two systems: individual accounts and a class account. The individual accounts would be one where students can receive money for turning in homework, good behavior, and the like. The class account would be when the classroom follows rules and expectations. Instead of simple rewards though, I would incorporate activities like auctions and business days, where they can bring in personal creations to auction off or build something to sell for the business days. My rewards would be more focused on life skills instead of immediate rewards.

"Give me 5" is a great countdown way to quiet the classroom and get them focused on the lesson. This can be used during transitions or if the students are losing focused. I have found that it works extremely well! The 5 parts of the process are:

1. Eyes on the speaker

2. Mouth is closed

3. Hands are still.

4. Feet are still.

5. Ears are listening.

"Toadally Awesome" is a way for students or myself to recognize when good behavior is seen. A "Toadally Awesome" toad can be written for students who help others on homework, pick items up, or any other polite mannerisms. This is a morale boosting addition to the classroom, and encourages the students not only to be on their best behavior, but to be helpful and respectful to one another as well.

Take Home Folders would be folders that would be used as a communication source between teachers, students, and parents. In this folder, I would be able to send home any important documents, newsletters, or gathered homework each day that the families should see. The Take Home Folders would also be a way to manage any behavioral problems without having to have parent-teacher conferences. The Take Home Folders would also be a way for parents to communicate with the teacher with any questions or concerns they may have.

Toadally Awesome!
